Breaking News: JUPEB Postpones August 2024 Exams Amidst Massive Hunger Protests!

The Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) has announced the postponement of its 2024 examinations due to ongoing nationwide protests.

On August 1 and 2, protests erupted in major cities across Nigeria in response to the rising cost of living. The protests, themed “End Bad Governance,” are expected to continue until August 10. Unfortunately, the protests have led to clashes with security operatives, resulting in the deaths of at least 14 individuals.

Ademola Adeleke, the JUPEB registrar, explained that the decision to postpone the exams was made to ensure they could be conducted simultaneously across the country. He noted that a revised timetable would be issued as soon as possible.

“We appeal to JUPEB Foundation schools in states unaffected by the protests and ready to proceed with the exams as initially scheduled to bear with us,” Adeleke stated. “This delay will enable us to conduct the examinations simultaneously in all our partner and affiliate universities.”

The protests have also led to incidents of looting and vandalism of public property in some states, further exacerbating the situation.

Initially scheduled for August 5 to 16, the JUPEB exams have now been rescheduled to take place from August 19 to 30. Adeleke cited security concerns as the primary reason for the postponement.

JUPEB is known for conducting standardized exams that allow candidates to gain direct entry into the 200 level at their preferred universities. The program is a critical pathway for students seeking admission to tertiary education institutions in Nigeria.

For the latest updates on the revised exam schedule, candidates are advised to stay tuned to official JUPEB communications.
